Jaime Lannister
Have “Game of Thrones” fans seen the end of Jaime Lannister’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) romantic relationship with his sister? HBO

An unlikely rivalry may be brewing on “Game of Thrones” in Season 7. When last season came to a close, it was clear that Jaime Lannister wasn’t thrilled about Cersei’s sudden rise to power. Will the siblings-turned-lovers’ relationship reach its boiling point when the HBO drama returns?

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau addressed Jaime and Cersei’s (Lena Headey) relationship in an interview with the Daily Beast. Cersei has been the focus of Jaime’s life since he was young — every move he’s ever made has served her in some way. Coster-Waldau hinted at a shift in that mentality, suggesting that Jaime will get introspective when “Game of Thrones” returns.

“Jaime’s addicted to something — almost institutionalized by a situation to where there is no other way,” he said. “For Jaime, there is no other way. He’s been groomed since he was 15 that, whatever his life is, it starts and ends with Cersei...He’s done that his whole life, and he’s reached a moment now where he suddenly has to address it.”

What that means, Coster-Waldau wouldn’t say. When approached with theories, the “Game of Thrones” star played coy and when asked whether he will turn on Cersei and kill her, he said very little.

“That’s a great theory,” he said with a grin.

Fans of “Game of Thrones” aren’t convinced Cersei’s going anywhere, though. Based on a 10,000 person survey conducted by Oddsmakers, she, Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) are in the clear. Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), Melisandre (Carice von Houten), Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) and/or Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) may have a tough road ahead.

“Game of Thrones” returns to HBO July 16.
