Several teams are trying to trade for Giancarlo Stanton, but one has emerged as a heavy favorite to land the Miami Marlins’ outfielder. The San Francisco Giants are considered to be the likely destination of the 2017 National League MVP.

San Francisco has even been made an odds-on favorite to acquire Stanton, according to the latest betting odds at Bovada.lv. That puts the Giants ahead of teams like the St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. Even the New York Yankees have been linked to the most sought-after player in MLB.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported last week that the Giants were the first team to make a formal trade offer to the Marlins. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported Sunday that the Cardinals joined the fray.

According to SiriusXM’s Craig Mish, San Francisco discussed a package that would include second baseman Joe Panik, along with prospects Tyler Beede and Chris Shaw for Stanton and second baseman Dee Gordon.

Beede is the Giants’ top pitching prospect. San Francisco drafted Shaw with the 31st overall pick in 2015, and he hit 24 home runs with an .871 OPS in 125 minor-league games in 2017.

Miami is looking to shed salary, and getting rid of the $295 million that remains on Stanton’s contract would be the easiest way to reduce their payroll. The Marlins might have to pay a portion of the outfielder’s deal in order to get multiple high-end prospects.

Of all Stanton’s rumored suitors, San Francisco might need him the most. The team that’s won three World Series championships in the last seven years was baseball’s biggest disappointment in 2017. Their 64-98 record was tied for the league’s worst, and the Giants finished 40 games behind the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

Only the San Diego Padres scored fewer runs than the Giants. San Francisco was dead last with 128 home runs and a .380 slugging percentage. The Giants got 38 home runs for their outfielders during the entire season.

Stanton led the majors with 59 home run and 132 RBI. No one on the Giants ranked higher than 127th in homers or 73rd in RBI.
