Jason Pierre-Paul underwent surgery after injuring his hand in a fireworks accident July 4. According to new reports, the New York Giants defensive end had his right index finger amputated because of the incident.

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com is reporting the development and added an image, which showed the official form for the operation.

Pierre-Paul, who was the 15th overall pick by the Giants in the 2010 NFL Draft, was due for a large extension this offseason or next. New York was set to place the franchise tag on Pierre-Paul for 2015 while the defensive star was looking for a long-term deal.

Pierre-Paul's finger injury is expected to put him out of commission for the next six weeks, according to separate reports.

While the new report states that Pierre-Paul is expected to play in the 2015 season, it is not known how the situation will affect his contract negotiations with the Giants.
