Apple’s iPhones might be a device the company’s aficionados are madly in love with, but they have their issues. Most iPhone owners have at least once had their phones frozen, when they simply use any of their phone’s functions and the screen was non-responsive.

Here’s why your iPhone could have frozen:

The reason behind the device freezing could be a hardware or software fault, or it could emerge from simple reasons such as low availability of storage, or too many open applications overwhelming the phone’s processor. In this case, your phone will keep on freezing regularly. The best solution for this problem would be to perform a hard reset of your device, which will wipe all your data. Before you do so, you should a backup of your device, so that essential data and apps are not deleted. You can hard reset your iPhone by navigating to General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. The screen will show the option to “Erase iPhone,” just click on it and your iPhone will reset.

Another reason could be bugs, the newest one being the three-finger tap bug. If you open the control panel and click on buttons in three rows at the same time, using three fingers, you will discover that the phone will freeze. It is something you might only do by mistake or someone might do to your phone to prank. But nonetheless, it is an issue that iPhone users are suffering from. Up till now, no solution or patch has been issued by Apple to resolve the issue.

A software update could also cause the phone to freeze. For example, there have been reports of iPhone 6 handsets freezing after the iOS 10.3.1 update. In this case, the solution would be to downgrade the phone to an earlier version of the software.

Low battery is another reason that causes iPhones to freeze. According to Chron, when the iPhone’s battery is low, the device could display blank screen, which would make it seem like it is frozen for up to 10 minutes. The best bet in this case would not be fuss around or even put the phone to charge, but rather allow the battery to fully drain and the phone to properly switch off. Once it does so, it should start working normally after charging and switching on.

Applications can also sometimes cause your device to freeze. Sometimes, a particular application could become unresponsive and cause the device to freeze. In this case, you can simply do a soft reset by holding down the power button until the “slide to power off” message comes on your screen and then holding off the home button for about six seconds till the app shuts down and the home screen reappears.

Freezing might at times make your phone might feel like a brick, but rather than getting frustrated, it is always better to troubleshoot.
