Gotham Penguin
Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) will be on the run from police following the murder of Theo Galavan (James Frain, not pictured) in episode 12 of "Gotham" Season 2. Fox

When "Gotham" Season 2 returns, new villains Mr. Freeze (Nathan Darrow) and Hugo Strange (BD Wong) will begin to cause chaos around Gotham City. However, they won't be the only ones as current villains on the Fox series are expected to get much worse, especially Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor).

In a behind-the-scenes video posted on ComicBook.com, Taylor teased that Penguin is going to get "darker" in the aftermath of him and Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) killing Theo Galavan (James Frain). Taylor said killing Theo was necessary for Penguin to keep living because Theo took away the one person in the world Penguin loved, his mother.

"His mother was his only connection to humanity, it was the only love in his life and that was taken away from him in an extremely brutal way," Taylor dished in the video. "He's untethered now, he can be the monster that everybody has always viewed him as."

The video begins by showing a manhunt by the GCPD for Penguin because they believe he's the one responsible for killing Theo. Penguin is hiding on the streets with the homeless to avoid getting caught and it's revealed there might be someone else running Gotham's underworld in his absence. Capt. Barnes (Michael Chiklis) tells Harvey Dent (Nicholas D'Agosto) that Penguin's men have abandoned him and that "it's a matter of time" before the villain is found.

Hugo Strange is also expected to help guide Penguin down that darker path. Showrunner Bruno Heller told TV Guide that Strange has a "profound effect on Penguin."

"He makes a new man of him in many ways," Heller teased.

The video also shows Penguin getting taken to Arkham Asylum, which is where Strange is the head psychiatrist. What sort of things will Strange do to the self-proclaimed "King of Gotham" when the show picks back up? Fans will have to tune in to find out!

"Gotham" Season 2 returns Monday, Feb. 29, on Fox at 8 p.m. EST.
