The Joker (Cameron Monaghan) has a huge arc with Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) in "Gotham" Season 3. Fox

If there’s one villain “Gotham” fans are excited to see (or see again), then that would have to be the Joker played by Cameron Monaghan.

He was first introduced in Season 2 and was killed off after only a couple of episodes. It was a surprising twist for the Fox show, since the Joker is one of Batman’s most notorious villains.

To get fans even more excited for his return, Monaghan tweeted a photo of his character in full Joker mode, but quickly took the post down. Luckily, The League of Geekz was able to take a screenshot of his post, which showed the character wearing his trademark make-up and purple-hued vest/dress shirt.

Earlier, executive producer Ken Woodruff told TV Guide that they do have plans to bring the Joker back, so they have been trying to keep the mythology of the villain alive. However, fans have to exercise a bit more patience because the mystery of the Joker will unravel sometime in the middle of Season 3.

“We are absolutely planning in Season 3 - but primarily in the mid to second half of Season 3 - to delve back into the mythology of the Joker, and characters that may or may not be the Joker - but more likely characters that are an amalgamation of what we'll come to know as the Joker,” Woodruff teased.

With the second half of the show fast approaching, the long wait is almost over. Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Oswald Cobblepot, said that Penguin and the Joker definitely won’t get along, so they will be on opposing sides. “Joker represents anarchy, whereas Penguin is all about there [being] an order to everything,” he told Yahoo! TV.

“He’s not interested in tearing things down. He’s not interested in anarchy at all,” Taylor further explained, adding that this is the reason why Penguin and the cops often find common ground. “There’s something identifiable in his madness.”

“Gotham” airs every Monday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
