Ben McKenzie plays Jim Gordon in the Fox show “Gotham.” Fox

The Joker will return in “Gotham” Season 3, and Poison Ivy is now all grown up. There might even be Harley Quinn and Killer Croc appearances next season.

With so many villains emerging in Gotham City, will the morally upright Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) join forces with them?

Despite wanting to clean up the city, Gordon was dealt with one heavy blow after another. He was framed for a crime he did not commit, and he was betrayed by people he considered as friends.

When season 3 opens, McKenzie said Gordon is now a bounty hunter catching monsters for money. But one thing’s for certain - Gordon still sides with the good guys.

“He’s certainly not a villain. He certainly doesn’t inflict pain just to inflict it. He has a certain morality, but it’s far, far away from where found him initially,” McKenzie told Comic Book Resources. “He’s learning a lot of things, and with each lesson he learns, he takes a step forward, but he also in some ways falls apart a bit.”

One of the first things Gordon did after reclaiming his freedom is try to make amends with Dr. Leslie “Lee” Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), but McKenzie said things did not go well between them. So a new romance comes in form of reporter Valerie Vale (Jamie Chung), who is keeping the Gotham City Police force on its toes with her hard-hitting questions.

“There’s a new love interest for me in Valerie Vale – I think I can say that that’s a love interest. I don’t think it’s much of a surprise. It’s professional, and then not. And [Lee] has a new man as well. So we get to have fun with the kind of love triangle aspect,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chung told TV Line that Valerie is in for a world of trouble now that she is with Gordon.

“Valerie quickly realizes the kind of danger one can experience when ‘dating’ Jim Gordon…” she teased.

As for David Mazouz, the actor who plays the young Bruce Wayne, he is more interested in a possible Superman cameo than blooming romances.

“I think it'd be really cool to have a young Clark Kent on the show. To have a 15-year-old Clark Kent. I know in ‘Batman v Superman,’ they played it like Metropolis and Gotham are twin cities, so it wouldn't be that hard to take a boat ride over for Clark,” he told IGN.

“Gotham” will return on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
