No one will support Jim Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) crime-fighting activities in “Gotham” Season 4. FOX

Even though Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) faced several upheavals in his life from the past few seasons of “Gotham,” he was able to make it through because of the support given by his friends and loved ones.

But this Season 4, the FOX show changed the dynamics of his life because Gordon is left with no one. His friend Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) no longer has his back, and the woman he wanted to marry - Dr. Leslie “Lee” Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) - has changed.

McKenzie told Entertainment Weekly that “Gordon feels even more isolated than he’s been before because the will to fight this system is non-existent in Gotham.”

Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), better known as the Penguin, has taken over the city’s underworld like never before, and his evil operations are thriving. No one is willing to stop him, save for Gordon. “The rest of the city has given over. The citizens of Gotham aren’t in the mood to fight back, so Gordon’s a man alone on an island,” he said.

Because of this, Gordon is left with no choice but to team up with Sofia Falcone (Crystal Reed). “An unlikely alliance is formed to take down Penguin,” McKenzie said. “But once you’re in bed with a gangster, you’re in bed with a gangster.”

Sofia is the sister of Mario Falcone (James Carpinello), the man Gordon was forced to kill last season in order to protect Lee. Given this fact, Sofia’s relationship with Gordon might be a complicated one, but executive producer John Stephen teased that they might even forge a romantic relationship. “That’s going to be a really compelling and interesting relationship,” Stephen said of their partnership.

Gordon might not be able to resist falling in love with Sofia because she was described by Comic Book as someone “strong, intelligent and calculating, she has run the Falcone operation in the south for the past 10 years and is returning to Gotham to help Gordon take down Penguin.”

“Gotham” Season 4 will be released by Fox on Sept. 21.
