Katie gets a surprise promotion from Diana in this week’s episode of “Great News.”

In a sneak peek from Season 2, episode 3 of the NBC comedy series, Diana (Tina Fey) calls Katie (Briga Heelan) into her office and tells her the good news.

“I’ve been promoted again,” Diana, who was just recently promoted to head of TV station MMN, tells Katie. “Starting next week, I’ll be the new COO of … the conglomerate which owns MMN.”

While Katie is thrilled with Diana’s promotion, she’s also a bit sad that her mentor will soon transfer to a new office. “So you won’t be around?” Katie asks. “But you’re my mentor. Could you appear in the clouds when I have moral conundrum?”

To cheer Katie up, Diana reveals why she actually asked Katie to come to her office. “I know that you’ve been figuring out your next move but I think you’ve earned a title bump,” Diana tells Katie. “How would you like to be senior associate producer?”

“Katie Wendelson, senior associate producer. Oh man, I wish I knew how to change my email signature,” Katie jokes, before telling Diana that she won’t let her down.

Apparently, Katie isn’t the only one who is bummed about Diana’s impending departure. In another sneak peek from the episode, video editor Justin (Horatio Sanz) reveals why he’d like Diana to stay at MMN.

“Too bad Diana’s leaving, I totally could have hit that,” Justin tells his co-workers at the office kitchen.

“Don’t be disgusting Justin,” Greg (Adam Campbell) reacts. “Diana is our boss.”

“You’re just jealous,” Justin replies, before insisting: “I’m telling you, she came into my edit bay and tried to French all over me.”

Since Justin has history of lying, Katie isn’t convinced that he is telling the truth. “[Last] time you told us you hooked up with Lorna Doone, that’s a cookie,” Katie reminds Justin. “You said a lot of stuff recently that makes me think you don’t know what sex is.”

For some reason, Justin’s claims about Diana become a much bigger deal, and the exiting head of MMN finds herself embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal, leaving Katie unsure who to believe, her mentor or her friends in the office.

Elsewhere in the episode, according to the synopsis for the installment, Carol (Andrea Martin) becomes head intern and struggles to prove to the other interns and to herself that she deserves the job.

“Great News” Season 2, episode 3, titled “Honeypot,” airs on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on NBC.
