For its opening Father's Day weekend Green Lantern debuted at #1 and grossed an estimated $52.7 million, which was lower than the opening weekends of the two previous superhero films of 2011, Thor ($65.7 million) and X-Men: First Class ($55.1 million).

Green Lantern released on June 17, 2011 in 3D. The film stars Ryan Reynolds (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as Hal Jordan, and Blake Lively (Gossip Girl) as Carol Ferris. Green Lantern is a 2011 superhero film based on the DC Comics. Martin Campbell directed the script written by Greg Berlanti and comic book writers Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, which was subsequently rewritten by Michael Goldenberg.

The cost of promotion along with the production budget take the total costs to $300 million. In April Warner Bros. debuted nine minutes of footage at the 2011 WonderCon in San Francisco, which The Hollywood Reporter reporting that the footage wowed the audience.
