Shonda Rhimes is a bit of a magician. While she distracts “Grey’s Anatomy” fans with Cristina Yang’s dwindling storyline, she’s pulling strings somewhere else within the narrative that will surely knock viewers right off their feet.

What exactly are we talking about? Well, from a sneak peek of episode 23, “Everything I Try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn out Right,” it looks like other characters will be facing plenty of drama to come barreling their way; specifically Callie, April and Jackson.

At the end of episode 21, viewers learned that April and Jackson expecting their own little bundle of joy – and apparently, they’re not exactly sure how they feel about it.

"At the table read, I was like, 'What? Already? So soon? You really want more babies on this show?!'" Sarah Drew, who plays April, told TV Guide. "I was really, really surprised that they chose to get April pregnant so, so fast."

The reason is that April and Jackson’s honeymoon phase is officially over. Now the two Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital staff members are facing reality. And it doesn’t seem they like what they see. Currently, their relationship is in a tenuous state and adding a baby to the mix isn’t really helping.

"It really just fuels some bigger conflict between April and Jackson and forces them to evaluate, 'What did we get ourselves into? Is this something that we really want?'" she explained. "All of a sudden, s--- just got real. Their honeymoon bubble is over. Now they have to deal with the real-life enormity of the very quick decision that they made. She doesn't know how she feels about whether she wants a child now or whether they'll ever be able to reconcile their differences in how they want to raise their kids."

In the sneak peek preview for episode 23, Callie catches the two coming out of the gynecologist. April fumbles with her words and eventually spits out that she was just getting a checkup.

“Both of you?” the attentive surgeon asks. C’mon, April. Don’t you know you can’t get anything past this one?

Will April and Jackson’s little secret be exposed before they even get a chance to tell their folks? Guess we’ll have to find out when “Everything I Try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn out Right” airs Thursday. But we doubt Callie would spill their secret. According to the synopsis for episode 23, she’ll have her hands full with her own drama when she receives devastating news.
