Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III wore the most expensive Adidas T-shirt and sweatjacket combo ever Sunday, but not because of the attire’s retail value. RG3 was fined $10,000 by the NFL because Adidas apparel is not the official gear of the league.

Griffin spoke to reporters following the Redskins victory over the Cleveland Browns wearing an Adidas T-shirt and sweatjacket, the Associated Press reported. The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner was not active for the game due to a sprained knee, but he still addressed the press after the win.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft has a sponsorship deal with Adidas, but the league had a deal with Nike. Griffin was fined $10,000 for “unauthorized apparel,” the AP reported.

While the $10,000 penalty was the first time RG3 was fined for his choice of clothing, it’s not the first time he’s been reprimanded, according to the AP.

Before the Redskins’ first game of the season against the New Orleans Saints, Griffin covered up the Nike swoosh on his warm-up shirt, which did not sit well with the league, the wire service reported.

The announcement of the fine came a day after ESPN commentator Rob Parker apologized for questioning RG3’s “blackness” and whether or not he is a “cornball brother” a week ago on “First Take.”

"I blew it and I'm sincerely sorry. I completely understand how the issue of race in sports is a sensitive one and needs to be handled with great care,” Parker wrote in his apology. “This past Thursday I failed to do that. I believe the intended topic is a worthy one. Robert's thoughts about being an African-American quarterback and the impact of his phenomenal success have been discussed in other media outlets, as well as among sports fans, particularly those in the African-American community. The failure was in how I chose to discuss it on First Take, and in doing so, turned a productive conversation into a negative one."

Parker added that he hoped to apologize directly to Grifffin and that he contacted the Redskin’s quarterbac’s agent, but it’s unclear whether he got through to RG3.
