Another gunfire incident has rocked Los Angeles area schools.

A police officer outside El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills was hit around 11:30 a.m. local time, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Unified School District told local television station KTLA.

KABC-TV reported that the officer was wearing a bullet proof vest. He was taken to a hospital in fair condition, KABC said citing a hospital spokesperson. The bullet did not penetrate the officer's body, the spokesperson said.

The officer was sitting in his patrol car when shot, media reports said. The gunman fled the scene and is at large, according to reports.

On Wednesday in the Southern part of the city, a gun in a student's backpack at Gardena High School accidentally went off, injuring two students. A 17 year-old student who brought the gun to school was arrested in that case on Wednesday.
