Hampton County attorney Alex Murdaugh was shot on Saturday in the Charleston area of South Carolina, months after his wife and son were murdered in the family’s home.

The incident occurred in the late afternoon when Murdaugh, 53, was driving on a remote road and experienced some car trouble. He stopped and was later shot.

Murdaugh was transported to a Lowcountry hospital, according to his lawyer Jim Griffin. However, Griffin claimed he did not know the severity of Murdaugh’s wounds.

Since the Hampton County Sheriff is still in the early phase of its investigation into the incident, they have refrained from releasing too many details about Murdaugh’s shooting. Police have not named a suspect in the shooting.

Meanwhile, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division revealed they were asked to investigate a shooting in Hampton County.

The incident comes after the June 7 fatal shootings of Murdaugh’s wife Maggie, 52, and son Paul, 22. The two were found in the family’s Colleton County home. It appeared Paul was killed with a shotgun, while Maggie was shot with a rifle. Police have not publicly named any suspects in the murders.

At the time of his death, Paul Murdaugh was awaiting trial after pleading not guilty to three felony counts of boating under the influence, including boating under the influence resulting in death.
