The biggest competition in the short history of Blizzard Entertainment’s “Heroes of the Storm” will be fought out this weekend in Las Vegas, with eight teams from around the world competing for two spots in the World Championships on Nov. 6-7 at the Blizzard Convention in Anaheim, California.

Latin America’s Furious Gaming, Singapore’s Relics, Australia’s Team Immunity and North America’s Cloud9, COGnitive Gaming, CompLexity, Murloc Geniuses and Tempo Storm will battle it out in the Americas Championships at the Las Vegas Convention Center Saturday and Sunday for their share of a $100,000 prize pool -- and those coveted BlizzCon championship spots.

Furious Gaming is a recent addition to the lineup, with fellow Latin American team Brave Ozone unable to compete due to visa problems.

Tempo Storm is best poised to take one of the winning spots, as the team was the first to qualify back in June, and also won the July and August qualifying rounds (with the qualifying spots going to the other North American teams and Tempo Storm taking home the winning prize money).

It is unclear who will win the second spot, but it is likely to be Tempo Storm’s biggest rival, Cloud9 -- who have managed to give Tempo Storm a hard time in many matches, and taken a number of games off them.

“Heroes of the Storm” was released to the public on June 2 and is described by Blizzard as a team brawler -- think of it as a multiplayer online battle arena game like “DotA 2” or “League of Legends.” Two teams of five pick from a pool of characters, or Heroes, and fight to destroy the other’s base and win the game. In competitions the matchups are usually a best of three or best of five.

The matches are being broadcast on video game streaming website Twitch from 10 a.m. PDT both days. Watch all the action from the “Heroes of the Storm” Americas Championship below.
