Aug 12 - Several thousand Muscovites headed to Strogino Beach to witness 35 homemade, human-powered machines take to the skies for the Flugtag challenge.

It was the first time the event has been held in Russia.

Quirky-looking human-powered flying machines were piloted off a six metre (approximately 20 feet) high deck in the hope of achieving flight.

A jury marked the performances in three categories: flying range, creativity and performance.Flugtag means flying day in German, but all the crafts ultimately splashed into the waters below.
