Carrie Mathison will be back on U.S. soil and facing a new task in the “Homeland” Season 6 premiere. After a long hiatus, the Showtime drama returns Sunday.

When viewers last saw Carrie (Claire Danes) she was battling an extremely personal decision. After Quinn (Rupert Friend) suffered a brain injury following torture by terrorists, Carrie appeared to be considering ending her longtime ally’s life. Now that viewers are aware she did not kill Quinn, the story will get back to her career in Season 6.

Season 6, episode 1, titled “Fair Game,” will show Carrie in the U.S. working as an advocate for Muslim Americans. The promo shows authorities arresting a man for material support of terrorism and Carrie standing up for the suspect.

“Law enforcement needs to stop harassing and demonizing an entire community,” Carrie says.

Carrie works to prove Sekou Bah’s (J. Mallory McCree) innocence, saying his decision to engage in a political debate online is not terrorism, only to be shut down.

Season 6 will lead up to the Presidential inauguration. In the premiere, Saul (Mandy Patinkin) and Dar (Murray F. Abraham) will meet with President-elect Keane (Elizabeth Marvel), who informs them she’s not a fan of their covert action program. “The war isn’t winnable,” she says. “It’s time to bring our forces home.”

Elsewhere Quinn, whom doctors told Carrie would suffer from brain damage after being by poisoned by gas, “struggles with his new circumstances.”
