Honda Motor Co Ltd will limit auto production in Japan to 1 million cars and shift more production overseas to rein in costs, Japan's Asahi daily said on Friday, citing an interview with Honda President Takanobu Ito. Honda's current production capacity in Japan is 1.3 million units, and the automaker plans to make 900,000 cars in Japan in the financial year ending March 2010, Asahi said.

In 2006, Honda had said it aimed to raise domestic production to 1.5 million cars.
