Twitter exploded Tuesday after the rumor mill began buzzing about the Boston Celtics' Kevin Garnett reportedly telling the New York Knicks’ superstar Carmelo Anthony that his wife LaLa Vasquez “tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios.”

The Knicks lost to the Celtics on Monday night, 102-96, in a heated match, which is most likely the reason the two got into a verbal fight on Monday night.

The claim stems from Black Sports Online and even though it hasn’t been confirmed if KG actually made the comments (or if Vasquez tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios) it hasn’t stopped the Twitterverse from erupting.

By Tuesday evening a tweet from @CelticsLife had been retweeted nearly 3,700 times.

“The rumor is that KG told 'Melo that his wife LaLa tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios. Has anyone confirmed this? What LaLa tastes like that is,” he wrote.

Though some of the other popular tweets going around the microblog weren’t as popular, the quips were just as hilarious.

“Just ate a fistful of Honey Nut Cheerios and thought of Carmelo Anthony's wife. Damn you KG!!!” @SklarBrothers wrote.

“The real winner in the battle of words between Kevin Garnett and Carmelo Anthony is Honey Nut Cheerios. That's amazing company advertising!” @MikeAScotto added.

“So if Melo's wife tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios, does this mean Bosh's wife tastes like Fruit Loops?” @NotBillWalton joked.

“Carmelo is lucky man to be eating Honey Nut Cheerios unlike Lamar Odom whose still stuck on soggy bowl of Frankenberry,” @RemickBenice quipped.

“If Honey Nut Cheerios doesn't try to sponsor the next Celtics vs Knicks game, they're hustling backwards,” @Aqua174 wrote.

Some of the ladies decided to get in on the joke, with @kristenq nonchalantly tweeting:

“Oh nothing...just stuffing Honey Nut Cheerios in my underwear. Trying to keep up with the trends ya know...”
