Kim Richards bid a final farewell to ex-husband Monty Brinson over the weekend. On Sunday members of the former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star’s family confirmed via Instagram that Monty had died. He was 58 years old when he succumbed to his ailment, which he’d been fighting for many years.

As was reported by E! Online, Rick Hilton, Kim’s brother-in-law, announced on the photo-sharing service that Monty had lost his battle with cancer. He went on to say that the father-of-one would be remembered for his large heart and “was loved by all he met.” Kim, 52, has since spoken out as well, thanking her fans for sending love and prayers to her and Monty in his final hours. Since then several members of the family, including niece Paris Hilton, have taken to Twitter and Instagram to express their sadness over Monty's passing.

Monty shared a few final Instagram posts before his passing, assuring fans that no matter the outcome he would be OK. He told his more than 12,000 followers that he was aware he was “facing death eye to eye,” but wasn’t afraid. He referred to his situation as a “journey,” adding that he was hopeful his openness about the severity of his condition would help others with similar battles to fight.

It is not clear exactly when Monty was diagnosed with cancer. In November 2014 WetPaint reported that Kim was struggling to cope with her ex’s diagnosis. As the article notes, although she and Monty were only married a short time before getting divorced they remained close. The publication reported that Kim had moved Monty into her home in an effort to provide round the clock care. This played out during Season 5 of “RHOBH,” with Monty making several brief appearances on the show.
