Jenna Coleman seems happy to have someone taking her spot in the TARDIS. The former “Doctor Who” star left the series last year, and Pearl Mackie has been announced as the new companion. Coleman sent the new actress a gift during her first day of filming the BBC America series.

The Clara actress sent a bouquet to her successor. Mackie seemed touched by the gesture and sent out a tweet to thank Coleman for the “beautifully thoughtful gift.”

Mackie is set to play Bill, the Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) new companion in “Doctor Who” Season 10. The Doctor typically has a human partner with him on his adventures through time and space. As previously reported, Karen Gillan and Freema Ageyman, both of whom have filled the role before, sent their congratulations to Mackie via Twitter when the news was announced in April.

Audiences don’t know much about Bill yet, but Mackie teased her personality. “Reading the script at the audition, I thought Bill was wicked,” the actress said in a press release. “Fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in — I can’t wait to bring her to life, and to see how she develops through the series.”

She sounds a bit similar to Clara, but Coleman opted to leave the cult sci-fi series last year after three seasons playing the character. However, she may work alongside Bill and the Doctor in Season 10. Capaldi recently hinted that Clara may not be erased from the Doctor’s mind forever. Clara wouldn’t be the only character making a comeback. Nardole (Matt Lucas) will also return in the new episodes.

Unfortunately, fans still have to wait to meet the Doctor’s new companion. “Doctor Who” Season 10 won’t air until 2017. A Christmas special will air before then, but it isn’t clear if Mackie will be introduced in the holiday episode.
