Computer and printer maker Hewlett-Packard on Monday said it would acquire Opsware Inc. for $1.6 billion in a deal that bolsters HP's line-up of business software offerings.

HP said it would tender for all outstanding Opsware shares at $14.25 each.

The tender offer is subject to a number of closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close before the end of HP's fourth fiscal quarter.
