It’s not easy being a single mom, especially if you’re keeping the baby a secret from your family. But this is exactly what Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza) of “How to Get Away With Murder” is going through this Season 4 now that Wes Gibbons (Alfred Enoch) is dead and she suspects her father to be the murder.

Souza told E! News that Laurel is “really brave and strong,” and it's “incredible” that she decided to keep the baby instead of getting an abortion before seeking revenge. However, Laurel is doing all that to protect Wes’ legacy.

So knowing that her seventh-month old baby would go missing towards the end of the series is really going to be a gut-wrenching blow for Laurel. “For me, knowing the hashtag or the whole arc is ‘Where's my baby’ is going to be such a strong thing to know because then all of these episodes coming up to that point, there's going to be such a relationship to—everything Laurel does is because of that baby being the way of her redemption. So, it gives it a lot more weight,” she said.

Aside from Laurel’s mission to give justice to Wes, another interesting thing about Season 4 is learning more about her family background and history.

“This is the perfect way to reveal more of where [Laurel] comes from,” executive producer Pete Nowalk told TV Line. “It will make a lot of sense why he ordered Wes to be killed. It’s fun to dig more into what Laurel’s backstory is and create a mystery around her family.”

The Keating 5, on the other hand, are “trying to be happy and trying to make the most of their lives,” Nowalk told Entertainment Weekly. “Wes’ death reverberates for each of them, and they all react in a different way this season…and what’s fun is that each of the kids has a very different reaction to that, and it starts the arc of the season.”

“How to Get Away with Murder” Season 4 airs every Thursday at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
