Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) has finally discovered who killed Wes Gibbons (Alfred Enoch). But given everything that has happened to her in the past, executive producer Pete Nowalk said that she might not want to get involved in any revenge plans this Season 4 of “How to Get Away With Murder.”

“That’s going to be a big dilemma for her. Do you forgive and forget? She’s lived her whole life doing the opposite. She’s been a fighter because otherwise you end up at the bottom. So she’s going to have to really take a hard look at what sort of life she wants now,” he told Variety.

At the same time, this Season 4 has been all about redemption for Annalise. So far, she’s done a great job staying away from drama. However, drama just keeps trailing after her.

“She wants to be a hero — for herself as well as these other people. And now it’s like, ‘What’s going to get [expletive] up now?’ She’s dragged into this mess, and she’s going to have to really figure out if she wants to be and what’s going to suffer. She’s been through enough suffering!” said Nowalk.

On the other hand, there has been no question from the start that Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza) is hell-bent to go after Wes’ murderer - even if it is her father. Because her family is involved, Nowalk told Entertainment Weekly that “guilt will definitely be the first emotion” Laurel feels, adding that “she’s also such a doer that she would want to get revenge.”

The only good thing about having Laurel’s family involved in Wes’ murder is that they got the opportunity to really delve into her family background, according to Nowalk.

“This is the perfect way to reveal more of where [Laurel] comes from,” he told TV Line. “It will make a lot of sense why he ordered Wes to be killed. It’s fun to dig more into what Laurel’s backstory is and create a mystery around her family.”

“How to Get Away with Murder” Season 4 airs every Thursday at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
