An Illinois General Assembly investigative committee has recommended that the state's House of Representatives impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

In a draft report the committee says on its Web site that the totality of the evidence warrants the impeachment of the governor for cause.

The 21-member special committee said the House could vote as early as Friday whether to make Blagojevich the first governor to be impeached in the history of Illinois politics.

Blagojevich was arrested on December 9 by FBI agents on public corruption charges including one allegation that he schemed to profit from his power to name President-elect Barack Obama's replacement in the Senate.
