“Game of Thrones” actor DeObia Oparei reportedly does not think that fans will miss Will Smith’s presence in “Independence Day 2.” The English actor, who is set to play the character of Dikembe, revealed in his interview with Zap2It that "ID2" might be a sequel to the original but it is a “standalone” film.

“It's got a whole new great energy about it. Certainly the cast that I'm working with -- Charlotte Gainsbourg, an incredible actress -- I don't feel that there will be any sense of a vacuum in this show at all. Not at all,” he said. He also praised director Roland Emmerich for his ability to cast the right set of actors.

“Roland is just really good at picking his actors. I can't speak about the first 'Independence Day' because I'm obviously not in it, but this one, just the people in it -- Jeff Goldblum is even more amazing. Liam Hemsworth is a real exciting actor and just a great casting choice for this,” he added.

“Independence 2” is currently being filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It will feature Jeff Goldblum as David Levinson, Bill Pullman as Thomas J. Whitmore, Liam Hemsworth as Jake Morrison, Jessie Usher as Dylan Dubrow, Maika Monroe as Patricia Whitmore and Sela Ward as U.S. President Lanford. Emmerich, Dean Devlin and Carter Blanchard have written the plot of the film, which has yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, Vivica A. Fox, who will reprise her role from the original, had revealed in her previous interview with Mlive that the events of “Independence Day 2” will be set 15 years after the 1996 film. She also added that the aliens will be back.

“Independence Day” was a major box office success, making $817,400,891. It is the 46th highest-grossing film of all time and is the winner of an Academy Award in the visual effects category. “Independence Day 2” is scheduled to be released on June 24, 2016.
