Indian police have arrested three men in the gang-rape case of an American woman in the north Indian town of Manali in Himachal Pradesh.

The men, in their early 20s, were arrested on Thursday, and evidence collected from the vehicle they were traveling in has been sent to a lab for analysis, Police Superintendent Vinod Kumar Dhawan told CNN on Thursday. Their identities have not been revealed yet.

On Wednesday, authorities had arrested three other men in the rape case. But the 30-year-old American woman said they were not the ones who attacked her.

The woman was attacked and gang-raped in the early hours of Tuesday while hitchhiking back from Vashisth, a popular tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh. Three men in a truck offered the woman a drive to her resort but attacked her and dropped her off on a highway.

Indian police had issued an alert for the men with roadblocks put in place to inspect every vehicle leaving the town of Manali. But finding the men was a challenge for officials as the woman was unable to provide significant details about the men or the truck they were driving.
