At the end of 2011, all the iDevices owners who want jailbreak are keeping their eyes peeled on the untethered jailbreak. In this regard, Pod2g and MuscleNerd, two stars among jailbreak hackers, recently made a lot of progress.

The latest news from jailbreak world is that the French Hacker pod2g has decided to pull all his energy on the A5 jailbreak and gave the task of releasing A4 jailbreak to the Chronic Dev team.

I read the comments on the blog, and I know that a lot of people are waiting for the A5 jailbreak, pod2g explained on his blog on Thursday. Also, I know there are tons of people out there with A4 or even earlier devices who wants the untether now and don't care about it could be interesting to wait A5 is finished to release or even 5.1, so that we don't waste an exploit that took me months to find and develop.

According to his words, this move might be caused by pressure from some of iDevices owners, who said they want pod2g to release A4 jailbreak and they do not care about A5 jailbreak.

However, some of his fans comforted and encouraged him. One said, Thanks for all your hard work man. I understand if there is no release until you get the A5 jb. It would really suck to have apple patch the hole, & make the A5 jb take even longer. I'm sure you'll do what's best. Best wishes & happy holidays! Another fans said Hello Pod2g. You Focus On A5 iDevice And We Focus Your Blog ~ Wish You Have A Good News For We And Wish You Merry Christmas And Can Complete Jailbreak A5 iDevice Easily ~

Pod2g also said the Chronic Dev team will release A4 jailbreak ASAP. I gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP, the hacker said on his blog.

One day before this decision was made, pod2g released a demo video about the current status of the 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4. Pod2g said, This is meant to reassure people that were thinking it only works on older iPods. The jailbreak is near ready for prime time (excluding 4S and iPad 2).

In addition, earlier this week, pod2g succeeded in clearing out A5 cache issue, which he failed to solve last weekend. He is still trying his best to find a bootrom-level exploit in A5 processor built on Cortex-A9 dual core processor. The bootrom-level exploit is a low level exploit that can only be fixed by revising hardware and it is read-only. Apple's A4, a single core CPU, is built upon AMU's Cortex A8 CPU, while A5 processor is built upon AMU's Cortex A9 dual core CPU.

Meanwhile, MuscleNerd is also keeping himself busy.

Early this week, iPhone Dev team member MuscleNerd released the redsn0w 0.9.9b9, a semi-tethered jailbreak. But it is a untethered jailbreak for old bootrom 3GS users. Later, after iDevices owners pointed out a problem with the untethered jailbreak available for the old-bootrom 3GS, MuscleNerd released redsn0w 0.9.9b9d to fix the old bootrom 3GS issue.

MuscleNerd wrote on iPhone Dev team's blog, iPhone3GS owners in our comments section below noticed a problem with the untethered jailbreak available for the old-bootrom 3GS. We've corrected that problem in 0.9.9b9d. If you have an old-bootrom 3GS and have already used last night's redsn0w on it, you can re-run it again without losing anything. Just use this new version, go to Extras->IPSW and manually select the 5.0.1 IPSW, then go back and Jailbreak it again (but you can uncheck Cydia because it's already installed).

3GS old-bootrom users please apply latest redsn0w 0.9.9b9d before installing ultrasn0w compatibility updatehttp://is.gd/6eek4Y, he tweeted on Wednesday. Furthermore, the latest ultrasn0w 1.2.5 has been made available on Cydia. Users need an unlockable device, a jailbroken baseband, to utilize ultrasn0w, which allows users to unlock their iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.0.1.

Last week, MuscleNerd found Apple's newly released 4S 5.0.1 build 9A406 IPSW (iPhone software) has an unencrypted ramdisk with the VFDecrypt key in plain text. He tweeted, Huh...today's 4S 5.0.1 bump (9A406) has wide open main fs. Thefinding is able to help hackers get more access to the 4S files and Siri files.

So many jailbreak hackers, including pod2g and Muscle Nerd, have made big progress on the iOS 5/5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, and their progress will continue. We will also continue to report the latest news on iOS 5 untethered jailbreak from the Dev team.
