A new report provides what appears to be clear evidence that Apple is nearing the release of its new budget handset expected to succeed the iPhone SE.

Previous reports revealed that Apple's iPhone SE successor was nearing its release. Some reports indicated that the device was meant to be released in March, but was delayed because of the coronavirus problem affecting the world. Now, a new report indicates that the device might be released real soon.

An anonymous source contacted MacRumors and sent an email showing an Urban Armor Gear case designed specifically for a “New iPhone 4.7”, 2020.” The accessory didn't specify the device's name, but that isn't surprising considering that the device hasn't been released yet.

Although the tech site cannot confirm the source of the iPhone case, the image of the alleged accessory is believed to have come from a Best Buy employee. Retail companies like Best Buy and Target normally acquire such accessories from case manufacturers so that they can sell them once the devices are released to the market. The image simply indicates that the device is nearing release.

Interestingly, MacRumors revealed that according to the person who leaked the image, Best Buy is telling its employees not to merchandise, or display to sell, these cases until April 5. Apple hasn't announced a release date for the iPhone SE successor yet, but that date seems to indicate that the company might launch the device within the next few days.

What to expect

Now that the case is out, fans are likely to make a lot of speculations or assumptions when it comes to the device. Here's what fans can expect to see when the device is released, based on the leaked image and some previous reports.

  • It will have a 4.7-inch display

The leaked image confirms previous reports quoting noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo as saying that the iPhone SE successor will come in a body the size of the iPhone 8, which has a 4.7-inch display. It's not as small as the original iPhone SE, but definitely not as big as the current iPhones.

  • It will have an improved camera

The case in the leaked image appears to have enough provision for two cameras. Previous reports, however, indicated that the iPhone SE successor will feature a single rear camera. Whether the upcoming device will feature two cameras, or one updated camera with other specs like True Tone flash, remains to be seen.
