After previously insisting "I don't document certain activities in my life," meta-Renaissance Man James Franco admitted on Tuesday that he does indeed have a sex tape floating around somewhere. (Well, we *hope* it's floating around.)

Franco confessed to Conan O'Brien during an appearance on his talk show that he had once made a sex tape with a girlfriend some years ago, presumably before he was famous.

"It's not like I went down to Van Nuys and tried to break into the porn industry," he told O'Brien. "I got a video camera, and my girlfriend and I decided to film ourselves, and watched it back and said, 'Yeah, let's never watch that again.' "

Franco blamed his acting skills for the disappointing performance.

"Those people in, you know, the pornos, they are great performers," he said. "They're not just doing. They're...they're selling it to an audience."

During an interview with MTV at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010, the "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" actor denied ever having made home videos of a salacious nature.

He did not reveal the identify of the girlfriend or mention where the tape might be today.

James Franco was nominated for a 2010 Best Actor Oscar for his performance in "127 Hours," in which he plays a hiker who gets trapped in a canyon and documents the ordeal with a video camera.

The real-life Franco (if there is one) has a habit of recording himself in various scenarios that are already being taped -- such as media interviews or his guest appearances on "General Hospital".

Franco recently carved the name of the late actor Brad Renfro on his arm, and caught the whole thing on camera as part of an art installation tribute to his "Deuce's Wild" co-star, TV Guide reported.
