It was painful for Team Rafael fans to watch Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) witness his true love, Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez), get married to his rival, Michael Cordero (Brett Dier).

But when Season 3 of “Jane the Virgin” opened, Rafael happily announced that he’s over Jane. As a result, their dynamic as co-parents of baby Mateo changed significantly, with Rafael not afraid to contradict Jane anymore because he no longer had to please her.

However, some fans are skeptical about Rafael’s announcement. How could he get over Jane that quickly?

When asked about his thoughts on Jane and Rafael's romantic future, Baldoni told Fuse that the two are over each other for good. “I do, actually,” Baldoni said, when asked if he thinks his character has truly moved on. "I know a lot of the fans don't, but I do think so. Rafael is a pretty strong guy. I don't know a lot of TV characters who have had to deal with as much as Rafael has to deal with in the past few years.”

“Once the love of his life committed to marrying someone else, I think he had a real reality check and he had to take care of himself,” he continued.

For now, Rafael has set his sights on Jane’s cousin, Catalina (Sofia Pernas). But Rafael should not get too attached to Catalina since Romper reported that she has been slated to appear in only four episodes. At the same time, a lot of people suspect that something fishy is up with Catalina.

Whatever happens with his new romance, it seems like Rafael will be occupied with something else entirely: his birthright. In Chapter 51, Rafael discovered that he's not really a Solano.

“He has a great storyline that I'm really excited about,” showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman earlier told The Hollywood Reporter. “Of course, we first have to play out the Anezka-Petra storyline… Beyond that, there is this new relationship that he has to deal with.”

“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 airs every Monday at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
