Hollywood actress Meg Ryan and musician John Mellencamp reportedly ended their relationship after three years together, Us Weekly reported.
"It was the distance," a source told People magazine about why the “Sleepless In Seattle” star, 52, and the rocker, 62, called it quits. "She lives in New York and he resides in Indiana. It was the long distance that ultimately was the cause."
The news of their split broke on Wednesday, but apparently they broke up a couple of weeks ago, a source told Closer Weekly. "I don’t think he loved all the attention he got just from dating an actress," the insider told Closer. "I bet he’ll stay away from dating another famous person for a while."
The couple kept a low profile and was rarely seen at public events together. On occasion, they would be spotted on the streets of New York. Mellencamp apparently found it hard to call NYC home. "I'm too sensitive to live there," he told Rolling Stone in December.
"I can't see poor people. I can't see the suffering. I can't see the trash on the streets." As far as the infamous paparazzi goes, he added, "I don't like it for [Ryan]. I'm not leaving Indiana. I'm going to die here."
The couple, who were last seen together in May, started dating in late 2010. It was shortly after the “Cherry Bomb” singer split from his wife of 18 years Elaine Irwin Mellencamp, according to People magazine. Ryan was previously married to actor Dennis Quaid. They were married from 1991-2001 and apparently divorced amid cheating allegations.
Reps for Ryan and Mellencamp have not commented on the reported breakup.
