It’s one of the biggest questions “Game of Thrones” fans have: Is Jon Snow dead or alive after his so-called brothers attacked him? Sure, Season 5 left most viewers in shock after one of their favorites was seemingly killed off, but the beloved character might still have a role on the show, despite everyone on the show claiming he is most definitely dead.

How could that be? Well, there’s a new fan theory that’s gaining momentum. As the Zooey Deschanel-founded blog Hello Giggles points out, “Game of Thrones” writer George R.R. Martin has been inspired from other stories, and he might have drawn his latest inspiration from “Star Wars.”

The latest fan theory, which was started by Reddit user ghostchief the beginning of the week, claims Jon Snow and Meera Reed might be twins who were separated at birth. The user shared the following scene, which outlines Eddard Stark watching his sister, Lyanna Stark, give birth:

"A baby's cry rings out as the septa raises a boy and walks him over to the man and woman.
The dialogue swells and clarifies to her voice, "Promise me, Ned."
Her eyes slowly close.
Ned begins to sob.
He raises his head to sound another high pitch noise coming from the foot of the bed.
A baby girl."

The twins were apparently separated to to keep them safe since as Targaryen children they would both be in line for the Iron Throne. Sounds just like Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, right?

Multiple outlets have also brought attention to the fact that Jon and Meera look alike, given they both have dark curly hair. It's also noted Meera doesn’t look like her brother, Jojen. To help the fan theory along, they also are the same age, which is a fact that is known in the books.

The theory by ghostchief finishes by surmising Season 6 will open with Lyanna giving away two babies and then dying. Viewers might see Lyanna give Jon to Eddard, and its unknown who the other baby (possibly Meera) will go to.

But not everyone is convinced of this theory: While MTV noted that it’s possible Meera could be someone’s twin, she probably isn’t Jon’s. In fact, she could be the secret sister of Ser Pounce, strange as it might sound.

Some fans still have hope that Jon is alive since the actor who plays him, Kit Harrington, was spotted on set in Belfast, Ireland, in early August. Unfortunately, there could be other reasons why Harrington would still be needed for production, like to film funeral scenes.

“Game of Thrones” Season 6 airs in 2016 on HBO.
