Julianne Hough shakes her booty in a remake of the 1984 hit musical Footloose opening Friday, Oct. 14. Modernized by director Craig Brewer, Footloose stars Hough from Dancing with the Stars and Kenny Wormald from MTV's Dancelife.

I could not be more proud of this movie, Hough told The Seattle Times in a phone interview. It's so refreshing to do a teen movie with this much substance.

Footloose tells the story of city kid Ren MacCormack who moves to small town, Bomont, Ga., after the death of his mother. Ren rebels against the town's strict rules that ban dancing and rock n' roll. Rev. Shaw Moore, the town preacher, forbids dancing after his son is killed in a car crash, but his daughter, red-boot-totting Ariel Moore quickly falls in love with Ren's spirit.

Hough (pronounced Huff) plays the preacher's daughter, Ariel Moore, originally Lori Singer, while Wormald plays Kevin Bacon's Ren MacCormack. Dennis Quaid co-stars as Hough's father and the town preacher.

Oh my gosh, [I've seen the original] probably over 50 times. Whether it's on TV, I just kind of flip through channels and if it's on, I'll always watch it, Hough told Moviefone in an interview.

I always watch remakes and I'm like, Ugh, that was terrible, they totally butchered that. But I can honestly say with pride that we did not mess this up. And it's great. I think that you don't see a lot of teen movies like the '80s teen movies nowadays, with messages basically telling kids, Fight for what you believe in, she said.

The songs from the 1984 chart-topping Footloose will also make a slightly modernized comeback. Hough sings: Sister Christian, Living in Paradise, Rock You Like a Hurricaine, Shadows of the Night, Harden My Heart and Don't Stop Believin'.

They didn't want [Footloose] to look like a music video, she said, or too perfect or pristine; they wanted it to be very real. Craig [Brewer] would tell me to tone it down a bit, so I didn't look so much like I knew what I was doing.

Hough has a long history as a dancing star. She began ballroom dancing as a teen and debuted on the fourth season of Dancing with the Stars in 2007. She was on the show for five seasons, finishing first place with Olympic gold medalist Apolo Ohno and winning season five with race-car driver Helio Castroneves.

I'm on this great adventure right now, she said. These are things that I really do want to do for the rest of my life.

Hough's most recent films include, Georgia in Burlesque (2010) and Ariel in Footloose (2011). Not Born to Be Gladiators, Rock of Ages, and Lamb of God are eacg in different production stages.
