The Fourth of July weekend means cookouts and lazy beach days to some but for others, it’s all about enjoying some air conditioning and the latest movie releases. For those looking to stay indoors on July 4, there are several new releases can you catch in theaters over the 2016 holiday. Check out a rundown of what’s playing below.

“The BFG” — PG

Fans of Roald Dahl’s “The BFG” can see his tale come to life with this Steven Spielberg feature. For those who haven’t read the book, the story follows an orphan named Sophie (Ruby Barnhil) who finds herself going on an adventure with a Big Friendly Giant, hence the title. Academy Award winner Mark Rylance stars as the CGI creature. Check out the trailer above!

“The Purge: Election Year” — R

Just in time for the 2016 presidential election comes the latest edition of “The Purge.” The third installment follows Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), a presidential front-runner who vows to takeaway the annual purge. While some support her plans for the country, others see the upcoming purge as a chance to get rid of her and she must go on the run to protect her life with her head of security Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo).

“The Legend of Tarzan” — PG-13

Alexander Skarsgård brings the iconic jungle man to life in “The Legend of Tarzan.” Margot Robbie stars as his love interest Jane. The action-adventure follows Tarzan as he travels back to his home in the jungle after adjusting to live in London. The film is directed by David Yates, famous for several of the “Harry Potter” films.

“Our Kind of Traitor” — R

A chance encounter results in a teacher finding himself doing a favor for the leader of the Russian mafia. When the mobster tells Perry (Ewan McGregor) his family is at risk of being killed if he doesn’t help him, Perry decides to deliver a file of names to the British Secret Service per his request. When the stakes continue to rise and he wants out, Perry is told he’s already too far in. The film is based off the spy novel from John le Carré and also stars Damian Lewis of “Homeland” fame.

“Life, Animated” — PG

If you’re looking for a feel-good movie, this is the ticket you want. The film tells the story of an boy diagnosed with autism whose family used the power of Disney animated movies to get through to him. Voice actors from Disney’s “Aladdin,” Jonathan Freeman and Gilbert Gotfried, also star.

“Satanic” — R

A road trip to Coachella goes all kinds of wrong when a group of friends decides to stay at a room where a girl killed herself. After playing with a Ouija board they decide to summon the girl who died. What ensues is the group’s fight to stay alive as the demonic spirits follow them. Notable stars include Sarah Hyland of “Modern Family” fame, Steve Krueger from “Goosebumps” and Justin Chon from “Twilight.”

“Independence Day: Resurgence” — PG-13

If you haven’t already seen this action-adventure movie, what better time than July 4? Celebrate our country’s freedom by watching earth fight against returning aliens in the “Independence Day” sequel “Resurgence.” While Will Smith does not star, several cast members return for a second earth-invasion. Newcomers include Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe and Jessie T. Usher.
