Kanye West and MTV News’ Sway Calloway got into a heated argument Tuesday during “Sway in the Morning” on SiriusXM’s Shade 45. The live broadcast started out civil enough, with the “Yeezus” star talking about his creative ambitions in music and fashion. Kim Kardashian’s fiancé has been busy lately, promoting his new album and making the rounds of radio stations. But when Sway asked him about needing corporate support for his clothing line, West became irate.
"Why don't you empower yourself and don't need them and do it yourself?" the MTV News host asked. That was the simple question it took for West to fly off his rocker. "How, Sway?" the rapper barked. "You ain't got the answers, man; you ain't got the answers. I've been doing this more than you; you ain't got the answers."
Sway, taken aback by West’s sudden anger, tried to get him to calm down. But West wasn’t having it. The rapper said: "Because you trying to give me advice on somethin' -- you ain't got the answers. You ain't spend $13 million of your own money trying to empower yourself."
Both men were eventually able to calm down, and expressed their fondness for one another before things got entirely out of control. "I love you, man. I'm sorry," West said apologetically. "This is exactly what happened at the French Revolution. I'm sure there were some arguments with [abolitionist] Harriet Tubman and other people talking about let's go this way, let's go that way."
West said during another interview Tuesday, on Hot 97, that he signed with Nike rival Adidas. The rapper switched running gear giants because he has to provide for his family. Apparently, Nike couldn’t help him do that.
“I took the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family… I’m gonna be the first hip-hop designer and because of that, I’m gonna be bigger than Wal-Mart,” he said. He proposed to Kardashian on her 33rd birthday on Oct. 21. The two have a 6-month-old daughter together, North.
