There is a new member of the British royal family. Kate Middleton revealed Prince George and Princess Charlotte aren’t the only ones she is taking care of. She and husband Prince William also have a hamster named Marvin.

The Duchess of Cambridge revealed the furry family member’s existence during a visit with schoolchildren in London on Wednesday, People reports. One of the students revealed Kate “said she had a hamster, and [Princess] Charlotte really likes it because the whiskers always tickle her face.”

The royal family is known to be animal-friendly, but dogs are more often their pets of choice. Queen Elizabeth II loves her corgis, and Prince William and Kate got their English cocker spaniel, Lupo, before either of their children were born.

Perhaps it’s best for George to stick to small animals. During her visit to the Magic Garden at Hampton Court Palace, Kate said her 2-year-old would be “a bit scared” of the 25-foot dragon structure that other children were playing on.

Marvin the Royal Hamster could start a trend. After all, every time George and Charlotte are pictured wearing something, it sells out. Could this news lead to an increase in hamsters as childhood pets across the world? Only time will tell.
