Katherine Heigl undoubtedly captivates audiences as the charming girl next door in romantic comedies. However, she dons a new avatar for her upcoming movie One For The Money, where she plays the heroic fictional character Stephanie Plum.

According to a report in the Huffington Post, unlike Heigl's previous nice girl roles in romantic comedies, the actress throws herself right into the bottom feeding muck in One For the Money.

Based on the 1994 novel of the same name by author Janet Evanovich, Heigl stars as Stephanie Plum, an ex-lingerie buyer who finds herself out of work following a divorce.

Desperate for cash, Plum turns to her cousin for a job at his bail bonds company. Instead of getting a safe filing position, Plum is given a job as a recovery agent, apprehending people who skip out on their bonds-in other words a bounty hunter.

She is asked to capture Joseph Morelli (Jason O'Mara), a good-looking cop wanted for murder. Plum happens to have had a very brief affair with him as a teen. Even though the movie is considered a comedy, Heigl gets to portray an edgier side in the role of Plum for the film.

Stephanie Plum appeared in 17 novels by Evanovich. The movie will be released in January 2012.
