Lionsgate is developing a TV series spin-off of the “John Wick” film franchise called “The Continental.” While Lionsgate has yet to confirm whether or not Keanu Reeves — the star of the movie series — will be involved in the potential TV show, Chad Stahelski, who directed the first two films of the franchise, said that there’s a good chance the Canadian actor would pop up on the spin-off.

“I think he would make an appearance,” Stahelski told IndieWire of Reeves. “I think that’s part of his thing, [But the series] isn’t centered around [his character] John Wick.”

Stahelski said that the focus of “The Continental” was expected to be the “cool, Wick-ian, magical and mysterious world” of the titular hotel. The New York hotel was introduced in the original film. It was then revealed in “John Wick: Chapter 2” that the establishment is actually a worldwide hotel chain that serves as a respite for assassins and an access point for resources specific to the job. No “business” is allowed on hotel grounds, and Wick has to face the consequences for violating that rule heading into the upcoming third film.

“They’ve got a really good structure [for the TV series],” Stahelski said of Lionsgate. “It’s very tied to the film [in that] it’s about the Continentals all over the world, how certain people come into that world, and what happens in relation to those people, which is cool. I think the world is very vast, and everything I’ve heard from it is very positive. […] It’s something that studio seems very, very intent on [making] and very, very behind.”

When asked if “The Continental” is a prequel of sorts, Stahelski told The Independent: “There are a lot of ideas being thrown around right now. A lot of people working on it. I don’t know if they’ve locked in a consensus yet. But they have some very good people on it.”

Stahelski, who is set to direct the third “John Wick” film, said that he would like to stay involved throughout the development stage of the spin-off and would like to direct a couple of episodes if the show was picked up to series.
