“Kevin (Probably) Saves the World” will resume its freshman run early in January next year.

Season 1, episode 10 of the ABC series is set to air on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 10 p.m. EST.

While the synopsis for the episode hasn’t been released yet, the trailer for the hour teases that Kevin might be sacrificing his personal happiness just to save the world.

In the 30-second clip, Kevin meets a man who wants to date Kristen (India de Beaufort). Although Kevin still has feelings for Kristen, he tells Yvette (Kimberly Hebert Gregory) that he has “to do right thing” because “obviously the universe” wants Kristen to be with the new guy.

Surprisingly, Yvette tells Kevin to do what his heart says even though it gets in the way of his mission to save the world. “Love is an emotion that cannot be ignored,” the celestial being tells the righteous soul. “You have a chance at happiness. Why don’t you take it?”

Last episode, Kevin finally found the first of 35 missing righteous souls. While it took him nine episodes to locate him, series co-creator Tara Butters told Entertainment Weekly that that the show “won’t take [another] nine episodes to get to the next [righteous soul].”

Although Kevin is set to meet more righteous souls as the show continues, series co-creator Michele Fazekas said that the show will still focus on Kevin. “We haven’t planned on bringing [the other righteous souls as recurring characters],” Fazekas revealed. “And it’s not to say that that won’t happen down the line, but so far, it’s that they’re now anointed and they’re righteous and they get their own, for lack of a better word, guardian angel. But the stories that we tell are still through Kevin.”

Fazekas also revealed that the storyline between Yvette and Tyler (Dustin Ybarra) isn’t done yet. Fazekas said that the rare encounter between Yvette and Tyler last episode “actually starts a little story that spans multiple episodes in a way that is maybe unexpected.”

“Somebody like Tyler is of course going to fall for a celestial being because he’s such a pure soul. It makes perfect sense,” Fazekas explained of why Tyler fell for Yvette. “But now this complicates things for Yvette, it complicates things for Kevin, and the more they try and fix it, the worse it gets. It will have interesting complications moving forward.”
