Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced on Father’s Day 2015 that their second baby would be a boy, but it was no coincidence. These two reportedly went the extra mile to ensure they had a son this time around.

Kardashian made it no secret that she was undergoing IVF treatments in an effort to have another child with West. What she wasn’t so public about was that she had undergone an IVF gender selection process sometime in the spring, according to Us Weekly. The procedure involves isolating embryos of the desired sex in a lab. The selected embryos are then implanted into the uterus where they will hopefully take, creating a viable pregnancy. Sources tell the publication the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star chose to have only “boy embryos implanted.”

“Kanye and Kim are so excited to complete their family,” another source told the magazine.

While the couple are over the moon with joy about their second child -- they welcomed daughter North West in June 2012 -- getting pregnant was no easy task. Kardashian’s fertility issues took center stage during Season 10 of “KUWTK.” The reality star spent most of the season going back and forth between different fertility doctors. During one visit she received the unfortunate news that getting pregnant naturally was highly unlikely and, even if she was able to, it would probably be the last time.

Kardashian’s fertility issues began after her pregnancy with North, at which time her placenta grew onto her uterus. Doctors warned that she may have to be rushed into surgery immediately after giving birth to have her uterus completely removed.

In addition to confirming the sex of their baby, Kardashian recently shared with fans names she and West are absolutely not considering this time around. During an interview with NPR’s Mike Pesca the 34-year-old said naming her son South West would be “just ridiculous,” adding that “North will always, you know, be better.” She has not yet revealed any names she and the rapper are considering, but said the final decision will come from her. Their son is believed to be due in December.
