For many, Labor Day marks the last hurrah of summer -- cue the sighs -- so take the long weekend to enjoy the poetry that is street fair food, outdoor concerts and art festivals. There's a full calendar of New York City events to say your goodbyes to the season.

8th Annual Coney Island Beard and Moustache Competition

When: 8 p.m. Friday

Where: Surf Ave. and W. 12th St.

Cost: $20

This may be a beard and moustache competition, but do not jump to conclusions about the participants: Women have been some of the fiercest competitors with unusual beards made out of flowers and jewelry. Some of the categories this year include “Worst in Show” and the “Ballyhoo Beard” (Best Styled Beard). There’s sure to be a lot of beard stroking and moustache tweaking.

Free Stand Up Festival Kick-Off Party

When: 5 p.m. Friday

Where: New York Comedy Club, 241 E. 24th St., New York

Cost: Free

The Free Stand Up Festival gears up this Friday and set into motion a week-long assortment of comedy. This year’s events will feature a roster of some of the top comics seen on shows such as "Late Night with David Letterman," "Craig Ferguson," "Inside Amy Schumer" and "Last Comic Standing." Comedians Christian Finnegan, Mike Recine and Doug Smith will provide a reliable source of laughter when they headline Friday’s set.

MoMA PS1's Warm Up has become a summer staple with live music from a range of genres, art, beer and food -- all in the museum’s courtyard. Labor Day weekend marks the end of the series, so head over to the outdoor music series if you haven’t already.

Governors Island Art Fair
