New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony may have had a reason to get upset after the Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett allegedly made a comment about his wife, Lala Anthony, tasting like Honey Nut Cheerios.

The couple, who have a five-year-old son named Kiyan Anthony, appear to be having marital problems, and they have been estranged for months, the New York Daily News reported.

It remains unclear what Garnett, 36, said to infuriate Anthony, 28, but the Knicks forward said "There’s certain things that you just don’t say to men, another man. I felt like we crossed a line, but like I said, we both have an understanding right now, we handled it the way we handled it."

Black Sports Online was one the first media outlets to report that Garnett made a reference to Lala Anthony, 33, tasting like Honey Nut Cheerios.

"Nobody needs to know what was said behind closed doors, so that situation was handled,” Carmelo Anthony said, adding, “I wanted to talk to KG [outside his bus]. I think it was something we both needed to get off our chest and see what really the problem was."

Anthony said there was "no altercations, it was just some words and a conversation that we needed to have.”

The Knicks star emphasized that "It’s over with for me. Whatever happened last night, happened. The words that was being said between me and Garnett, it happened, can’t take that away. I lost my cool [Monday], I accept that, but there’s just certain things that push certain people’s buttons.”

Garnett, a 17-year NBA veteran, has blamed the heat of the game for causing the blow up between him and Anthony.

“Yeah, it got intense in the end,” Garnett said following Monday’s dust-up.

The Celtics beat the Knicks, 102-96.
