Tala Ashe’s Zari is set to join the Legends in Season 3, episode 3 of CW’s “Legends of Tomorrow.” But how much does the hacktivist from the future want to be part of the time-travelling crew?

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ashe implied that Zari is going to question her decision to join the group at the beginning of the new season.

“Zari is not an obvious choice to join the Legends, and to be part of a team,” Ashe told the news outlet. “In the early episodes, you’re going to see that she’s fighting the narrative of being a superhero, but also being part of a team and trusting people because I think that’s something that has burned her in the past. Because of her upbringing, it’s not something that she easily adheres to.”

While adjusting to her new life as a Legend isn’t going to be easy for Zari, it doesn’t seem that the new recruit has plans to quit. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month that Zari has very personal reason why she decides to board the Waverider.

“When we meet Zari, her brother will have been killed and the rest of her family is presumed missing,” Guggenheim said. “However, when she joins the Legends, she is surprised to learn that their rules prevent her from using time travel to save her brother. A computer hacker by training, Zari then sets out to see if she can find a loophole to these rules and, essentially, hack time.”

Although the Legends apparently allow her to join their team, Zari is going to butt heads with them as she believes that their objective of just fixing anachronisms isn’t really that helpful to humankind.

“The Legends meet Zari in 2042, and 2042 is a pretty bleak dystopian police state,” Ashe said (via Entertainment Weekly) at Television Critics Association’s summer press tour last August. “She encounters the Legends and there’s a philosophical challenge there, because she sees they’re going to fix these anachronisms in history, but she’s living in a time that’s so bleak and terrible, so she challenges the Legends … to improve history and not just fix history. So there will be some tension there.”

“Legends of Tomorrow” Season 3 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
