Dan Stevens as David
Melanie (Jean Smart) tells David (Dan Stevens) in the trailer for episode 3 of “Legion” that rescuing Amy (Katie Aselton) from Division Three by himself could put Summerland in a very dangerous position. FX

Rescuing Amy (Katie Aselton) is risky not only for David (Dan Stevens) but for the whole Summerland.

At the end of this week’s episode 2 of “Legion,” David decided to leave Summerland to save his sister Amy from Division Three. But Syd (Rachel Keller) was able to convince him to stay by telling him that he has a higher chance of saving Amy if he learns more about his powers at the facility. In next week’s episode 3, however, David appears to have a change of heart, forcing Melanie (Jean Smart) to intervene.

In the trailer for episode 3, David seems to ask permission from Melanie to temporarily leave Summerland to rescue Amy. But Melanie thinks that it is not a good idea. “[If you go out] either they will kill you or they will follow you here and kill all of us,” Melanie tells David in the clip.

As the group tries to figure out how they can save Amy, David does another session of memory work with Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris) in an attempt to determine when exactly his powers emerged. The duo — along with Melanie and Rachel — go back to the time when David lost control of his powers in front of his former girlfriend, Philly (Ellie Ariaza). Everything seems fine at first, but when the Devil with the Yellow Eyes shows up, David panics and loses his focus.

In a recent interview with IGN, Stevens said that the Devil with the Yellow Eyes is going to connect with the bigger story later in the season. “That does play a big part,” Stevens said of the horrifying figure. “It’s a pretty terrifying thing to have loom on your consciousness.”

Series creator Noah Hawley also told TVLine that Devil with the Yellow Eyes is going to play a more prominent role after the first two episodes. “It’s sort of detached from information in the first couple of hours,” Hawley said. “[But] it’s compelling because it’s such a horrifying image, and we know that it means something, but we don’t know what it means.”

“Legion” Season 1, episode 3 airs on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
