Apparently, the popular “Game of Thrones” catchphrase “rich as a Lannister” does not apply to Lena Headey’s bank account.

Headey, who plays the golden-haired Queen Cersei Lannister on “Game of Thrones,” claims to be broke, with less than $5 in her bank account, TMZ reported on Thursday.

The 39-year-old actress’ dire financial situation came to light during her protracted legal battle with soon-to-be ex-husband Peter Loughran over the couple’s tax refund. According to legal documents pertaining to the case, Loughran is demanding half of the couple’s $46,000 tax refund from 2011, claiming that the money constitutes community property from their marriage.

The “Game of Thrones” star, who filed for divorce in 2012, asserts that she needs at least $6,000 from the refund immediately, as she is struggling to pay her bills. According to TMZ, Headey has been “barely scraping by,” relying on credit to support herself and the couple’s 2-year-old son.

Headey’s financial hardships are surprising, considering her opulent home and major role on one of cable television’s most popular series.

According to TMZ, while Headey does expect to earn acting income in the near future, she needs a $6,000 advance from the tax refund stay afloat for the time being. The “300” actress is even willing to surrender another $6,000 to cover Loughran’s living expenses, so long as her estranged husband is willing to leave the division of the rest of the refund to the courts.

So far, the judge presiding over the couple’s legal battle has denied proposals from both sides, leaving the case’s ultimate fate in doubt. In the meantime, Headey has to hope that Cersei Lannister’s penchant for gold isn’t just an act.
