“Lethal Weapon” Season 2 is going to pick up just a few weeks after the events in the Season 1 finale.

“At the end of Season 1, Riggs (Clayne Crawford) drives off to Mexico, and we begin Season 2 a couple of weeks later,” Matt Miller — executive producer of the Fox series — said (via Deadline) at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour on Tuesday. “Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) has spent a couple of weeks looking for Riggs in Mexico and racked up a credit card bill his wife is not too happy about.”

While the outcome of Riggs’ personal mission in Mexico remains to be seen, Miller said last March that the upcoming Season 2 premiere will somehow reboot the series. “The idea is to reboot the series in Season 2 by giving some resolution to what went down in Mexico in a way that feels satisfying, without necessarily having to do a serialized couple of episodes,” Miller told Yahoo TV. “We have a new mythology that we’re going to be introducing; the cartel will still be alive in Season 2, but they’re not going to be a focal point. We’re using them as a layer and building on top of it.”

At the end of the show’s freshman run, Riggs headed to Mexico to hunt down Tito Flores (Danny Mora), the head of the cartel responsible for the death of his wife Miranda (Floriana Lima). After Murtaugh found out that his partner went to Mexico all by himself, he decided to follow him to make sure that he comes back to Los Angeles in one piece. Although Murtaugh followed Riggs to Mexico out of concern for the latter’s safety, Miller said that the two will continue to clash with one another once they meet there.

“There’s always going to be a rift between the guys, and things are going to happen in Mexico that will be very difficult for them to talk about,” Miller teased about what’s to come next season.

Meanwhile, it was also announced at the TCA summer press tour that Hilarie Burton is set to reprise her role as Karen Palmer in Season 2. Palmer was last seen in the penultimate episode of Season 1, where she told Riggs that his wife’s death might not be an accident. Palmer thought that Gideon (Matt Passmore) was the one who killed Miranda (Floriana Lima) — a speculation that was confirmed to be true in the Season 1 finale.

“Lethal Weapon” Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
