The Plus versions appear to be one of the latest trends among smartphone manufacturers. Apple ushered in the moniker with the iPhone 6 Plus in 2014. The device was Apple’s first to have a screen larger than 4.7-inches. To date, all of the iPhone’s Plus models have had a 5.5-inch display. However, other manufacturers have found many other ways to differentiate between a Plus version and standard version.

Here’s a rundown of some Plus version smartphones currently on the market and how they compare to their standard counterparts.

LG G6 Plus

LG has released a new model of its 2017 flagship, which includes higher RAM and storage capacities, in addition to several new features, specific to the updated smartphone. The LG G6 Plus adds 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage to the standard design and specs of the original LG G6.

Unlike most Plus models, the LG G6 Plus is not a larger device. It retains its 5.7-inch Quad HD display as well as its Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chip, 13-megapixel dual camera set-up and 3,300 mAh battery.

Other standout features include wireless charging, Hi-Fi DAC capability, Face Print (facial recognition biometrics), a Low Power Consumption feature, which regulates how much power is being used for sensors and networks and a Covered Lens feature, which alerts users when their fingers are in view of the wide-angle lens.

The LG G6 Plus will launch first in South Korea, like for about $100 more than the original LG G6. The smartphone also adds the colors Marine Blue and Optical Terra Gold to the G6 lineup.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus

The Galaxy S8 Plus is Samsung’s phablet version of the Galaxy S8. The device features a 6.2-inch dual-edge curved display, but is relatively the same size of the Galaxy Note 7, making it a unique option on the market.

Unlike Samsung’s typical Galaxy Note phablet line, the Galaxy S8 Plus does not include an S-Pen. However, rumors suggest the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 will be just slightly larger than the Galaxy S8 Plus, with a 6.3-inch display and will also include a stylus.

The Galaxy S8 Plus differs from the Galaxy S8 not only in its size but also through its higher battery capacity. The device features a 3,500mAh battery, while the Galaxy S8 features a 3,000mAh battery.

Otherwise, both the Galaxy S8 Plus and Galaxy S8 share the same specifications, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (or Exynos 8895) chip, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, a 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera and Android 7.0 Nougat. Other standout features include the Bixby AI assistant and several new biometrics features, such as facial recognition and iris scanning.

The Galaxy S8 Plus is about $100 more expensive than the original model, selling for about $849, while the Galaxy S8 starts at about $749.

iPhone 7 Plus

The iPhone 7 Plus features a 5.5-inch display, 3GB of RAM, a larger, 2,900 mAh battery and a dual-lens camera setup to differential from the iPhone 7. In comparison, the iPhone 7 features a 4.7-inch display, 2GB of RAM, a 1,960mAh battery and a 12-megapixel single lens camera.

Shared features among the devices include their A10 Fusion chip, 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB internal storage options, iOS 10 operating system and IP67 water resistance rating. Both devices also released without a 3.5mm audio jack to usher in Apple’s AirPod wireless earbuds.

The iPhone 7 Plus is about $100 more expensive than the original model, selling for about $749, while the iPhone 7 starts at about $649.

Huawei P10 Plus

The Huawei P10 Plus features a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, 4GB RAM/64GB internal storage and 6GB RAM/128GB internal storage options and a 3,750 mAh battery to differentiate from the Huawei P10. In comparison, the Huawei P10 features a 5.1-inch Quad HD display, only a 4GB RAM/64GB internal storage option and a 3,200 mAh battery.

Shared features among the devices include their HiSilicon Kirin 960 chip, 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel dual-lens rear camera set up and 8-megapixel front camera, Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, USB Type-C ports and fingerprint scanner.

The devices are available internationally, with the Huawei P10 Plus selling for about 700 euros and the Huawei P10 selling for about 600 euros.

Moto G5 Plus

Many Plus smartphones tend to be some sort of flagship device, but the Motorola Moto G5 Plus stands out as a lower-range Plus version. The Moto G5 Plus features a 5.2-inch Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chip, 2GB or 4GB RAM and 32GB and 64GB internal storage options, a 12-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 3,000mAh battery to differentiate from the Moto G5.

In comparison, the Moto G5 features a 5-inch Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chip, 2GB or 3GB RAM and 16GB and 32GB internal storage options a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 2,800mAh battery.

Shared features among the devices include their 5-megapixel front cameras, fingerprint scanners, and microUSB 2.0 ports.

The Moto G5 Plus is available in the U.S., starting at $229.99. Internationally it sells for about 280 euros. The Moto G5 is only available internationally, selling for about 200 euros.

Vivo V5 Plus

The Vivo V5 Plus is also a lower-end Plus model and has similarities to the LG G6 Plus in that they are similar to their standard models in terms of size but include a number of hardware upgrades. Both the Vivo V5 Plus and Vivo V5 feature 5.5-inch screens; however, the Vivo V5 Plus display has a Full HD resolution, while the Vivo V5 Plus display has an HD resolution.

The Vivo V5 Plus also differentiates with its 64GB internal storage capacity, a 16-megapixel rear camera and 20-megapixel and 8-megapixel dual-lens front camera setup and 3,160 battery. In comparison, the Vivo V5 features 32GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera and 20-megapixel front camera and a 3,000mAh battery.

Shared features among the devices include their 4GB RAM capacities, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, and microUSB 2.0 ports.

The devices are available internationally, with the Vivo V5 Plus selling for about 450 euros and the Vivo V5 selling for about 250 euros.
