Liam Hemsworth was recently spotted getting cozy with Maika Monroe, his “Independence Day: Resurgence” co-star. Their public display of affection set the Internet ablaze with speculation about whether they are a couple.

According to Us Weekly, the pair was spotted together at a Fourth of July party thrown by the “Independence Day” sequel director, Ronald Emmerich. Sources who were at the holiday bash say they saw Hemsworth and Monroe locking lips and “grinding” on one another. The eyewitnesses claim it did not appear that Hemsworth or Monroe were trying to keep their relationship a secret, saying it was so “in-your-face!” Although they couldn’t keep their hands off each other, it doesn’t look like these two plan on settling down together just yet.

“They’re not official,” a source said. “But their chemistry is ridiculous!”

If the rumors are true, this marks the first high-profile hook-up for Monroe who only recently burst onto the scene in Hollywood. She is also the only woman Hemsworth has been linked to since splitting from ex-fiancée, Miley Cyrus. The pair got engaged in 2012 after two years of dating. They called it off in 2013 and have not rekindled their relationship since then. They are, however, said to be friendly.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" follows a plot that's similar to the original film. The people of Earth will, once again, be forced to come together to defend their planet against alien invaders. The film will star many actors and actresses from the 1996 blockbuster, including Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch and Bill Pullman.

According to Us Weekly, Monroe was cast as Patricia Whitmore, the president's daughter, in "Independence Day: Resurgence." Fans were outraged when it was announced that Mae Whitman had been overlooked for the part since she played the first daughter in the original "Independence Day" film.

The movie hits theaters June 24, 2016.
