When it comes to life, most relationships need work and Lily Collins had no problem sharing that her relationship with her famous father Phil Collins has had some negative effects on her.

The actress recently shared details about the extent of her relationship with her dad in a new book of essays, People reported Wednesday, including the part he played in creating her “deepest insecurities.”

In the book, “Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me,” Collins revealed that she wasn’t particularly close to her dad and because of that blames him for her self-doubt. “I’ve realized that many of my deepest insecurities stem from these issues with my dad,” she wrote.

“It’s taken me over a decade to resolve some of them (others I’m still resolving) and to finally build up the courage to speak my mind to him,” the star continued.

Collins, 27, revealed when she was younger she would walk on eggshells whenever she spent time with her father out of fear that he would leave.

Collins’ relationship with her father went downhill when the singer and her mother, Jill Tavelman, divorced when she was 5 years old and the musician moved from the family home in England to Switzerland where he stayed for over 20 years.

“We all make choices and, although I don’t excuse some of yours, at the end of the day we can’t rewrite the past,” the “Love, Rosie” star wrote.

“I’m learning how to accept your actions and vocalize how they made me feel… I now understand that my frustrations surrounding our communication are not about changing you, but accepting you as you are,” Collins added.

Despite her various feelings towards her father and his effect on her, the “To the Bone” star has forgiven him for not living up to her expectations. “I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected,” she shared. “I forgive the mistakes you made.”

Although she has been through some pain and self-doubt due to her relationship with her father, it looks like Collins is becoming a woman that she can be proud of and hopes her father will see her greatness.

“There’s still so much time to move forward. And I want to. I’m inviting you to join me,” she wrote. “I’ll always be your little girl,” Collins ended the letter.
